Watch as the British pilot (Flight Lieutenant Ian Fortune) of this Chinook takes multiple hits, including a glancing shot to his own head, on a troop extraction run in Afghanistan. This is the definition of a hero.

The Chinook took multiple hits severing a hydraulic line, raking the fuselage and windshield with rounds.

Watch as the pilot takes a glancing ricochet to his left temple and manages to keep his wits about him, saying "Ok chaps, just to let you know I took a round through my front windscreen which came up and hit me on the head." Even the Sun reporter does well to keep his composure during the report, as he himself is faced with the very real possibility of a crash and death.

  • That's what being a combat pilot is about. Everything going to shit but he stayed calm and got the bird and passengers back even after taking a shot in the head.

    Respect!

  • Us British hate being shot in the head, it really messes up our day.

  • This guy gets shot in the fucking head, takes it like a boss, gets his job done, saving lives in the process. Did he get a medal? I mean personally I think the guy should recieve a knighthood for that, but those go to pompous assholes, not the servicemen/women who risk everything. (maybe knighthood is a bit far, but if you can get one for cycling a fucking bike..)

  • British soldiers Best in the world

Mike, stick to buy clapped out old heaps, your not made for the front line, although hats off for going out there

  • what's going on at 2:32??

  • uh oh,you now made that pilot angry, but of course he didn't show it.

  • The reporter isnt from the Sun. He is a presenter, he usually presents deals on wheels and wheeler dealers where he does up and sells secondhand motors, but I can tell you now he wouldnt work for the Sun newspaper, he is a Labour supporter for a start.

  • @SniperMod90 Its the M60 on the British Chinook.

  • I am thankful to have men like this protecting us, but I don't think we need to be in this war.

  • Thank you Boys for giving everything for us! and then some.....
