What type of video card do you have? I'm guessing a AMD/ATI card. In that case I recommend you install the non-free driver. And if you have switchable graphics Goto your Intel card when not doing 3D stuff like games.

I have a HP too (brand new) and it does get pretty hot. (In Windows too) But I find HP's design may be to balme they need a better heat pipe system or to pick cooler parts. Love ya hp but your laptops are too hot sometimes fix it yo.

When I install UBUNTU on my hp envy6,my laptop is very hot,the fans run very fast and the power use very quickly!! What can I do!!

Cool wall. I was gonna say Hey what about a pictogram screen saver. But I forgot how gnome ripped out screensavers. I guess you can you xscreensaver. But that's not default :(
