So why did you take the AP class? Were you hoping to challenge yourself & what you wanted to learn?
I think that memorization could be a good tool for some aspects of learning. For example, a third-grader learning the times tables. But it's not something that can be applied across the board with the hopes that a student will retain the information. Although, having a good memory will serve you well no matter what you do.
How do you know how heavily colleges rely on SAT or ACT scores without looking at the other aspects of a student? Like clubs or groups the student is involved in? Or community/volunteer work? Or awards for fine art - music, art, drama? I think teacher references/recommendations would be helpful in bridging the gap between a student's potential and how he scored on a test.
