Frankliln Home Inspector notes: Gas appliance exhaust vents should protrude through the roof far enough where there is a minimum of 2 feet clearance between the top of the vent pipe and the closes portion of the roof. Clearances less than this can interfere with the exhausting of the gas units introducing carbon monoxide into the structure causing a safety issue.
