Baji quan

I've done baji quan, traditional chang quan, and modern chang quan. I actually kind of like the form itself and it has lots of good techniques. Of course the manner in which it's done shows he's not a baji quan expert. It's a changquan guy who has a form based on baji quan but practiced with all his chang quan basics. I like it, but it's not baji quan in the way it's performed, but there's no reason it couldn't be practiced with traditional baji quan flavor. The techniques are all baji quan.

To say this isn't baji, is wrong. Has everyone seen every version? With each master from various regions from northern China, the system will adopt the flavor of that master. Look at Choylayfut. Every school of performs their forms totally different. So does that make them all wrong? Please exercise an open mind with respect to the traditional arts. China's a large country with a lot masters who add their own particular twists and specialties to already well known styles. Train hard!

@Taijiguy108 I totally agree with you bro! Some people on here really have no experience to critique certain performance. What you said has completer merit and I noticed what you were referring to. Baji is definitely not his main stay.

@tweetalig It's a baji quan form (the techniques themselves are baji quan) but he is not a baji quan expert. I think his main traditional style was tan tui and zha quan (and of course he is an old sport wushu champion). You can tell how he messed up the breathing and is not looking in the proper direction on some techniques. I mean he obviously has great ability, but doesn't seem to have had much formal training in traditional baji quan beyond performance. His chang quan is much much better.

Hehehehe~ Horrible...

master Zhao also does baji,

I like the show, the energy. He could probably hold his own in a fight if someone doesn't take out his knees. His balance seems to sway a little bit, you'll notice towards the end it's very evident that all of his weight is on his heals. I think he made himself light headed a little bit from improper breathing. I don't think he's too far off from having really good kungfu though.

I practice Huo style in Tianjin so it seems we're on the same boat. I've watched the video over again and although I see that he's doing a modified version of da baji, the way he performs techniques is so "not baji" that in my opinion the result can't be linked with what it came from so I wouldn't dare to say those are baji techniques (they're just inspired from)

Most can be found between xiao jia baji and da jia baji (at least Huo family... I don't know all baji versions). It's just not practiced in a very "baji" mannaer... hopping into them, shortcutting some strikes, or leaving out small parts of some moves, etc. Maybe you need to watch more carefuly. What kind of baji do you study?

Actually very few of those techniques are from baji
modern !!!!

sorry man, I know everybody has his approach to martial arts. I like Baji because it has great power in its movements. ( traditional) If I see taolu's performed in a modern sence (without good knowledge of the different forces) I gets a bit on my nerves because it does not do the style justice.

i agree, lot's of traditional styles has been modernised and in my opinion it shouldn't be compared with real traditional styles cause "new" tradition is just funny sport wushu things, don't even know how to call it.
