I've met Eric a few times & have a few of his CDs. How can I say it? He's an extremely talented guitarist who's perhaps more fun to watch than listen to. I wouldn't call him self-indulgent (he's very humble & approachable, actually) - it's more like he loves to push the limits of his abilities and his instrument every time he plays. Technically, he reminds me of X-Games athletes who flub tricks on occasion, but only because they dare to try the quad, rather than settle for the easier triple.
Eric is awesome. I would like to see any of the folks who gave negative "opinons" to post a video response of yourself playing. That will shut you up huh? I took lessons from Eric and I have been playing for years and I owe all my ability to perform and play to Eric. You go Eric and thanks for all the great lessons you gave me and my brother years ago. Jason
I wouldnt say swindled. He's got good technique. If Eric would just tone it down a little and practice a few months with a metronome, and value the mix of quiet, soft vs. harsh, loud expression, it would be a pleasure to listen to him. This sort of reminds me of the teenager that learns the drums and wants to turn every element of the song into a solo. the skill is for giving you the ability to produce the sounds you want, not for forcing a sound into a song cuz its impressive.
Yah, after listening to a few of his, yah, he has good technical skill. However, he has bad timing, and his compositions seem more self-indulgent than beauty focused. I'll always choose Don Ross, Andy McKee, Antoine Dufour, Mason Williams, Pierre Bensusan, Stephen Bennett, Preston Reed, and the like over Eric.
i'm annoyed that i keep seeing comments by people who've apparently been swindled into taking lessons from this cat.. "those who can't do, teach" that's what they say, right? meh
I opened for him once, nicest guy you'll ever meet, he definitely is genius, pretty dang funny too....
