"Dream a Little Dream of Me" is a song, usually credited to Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt, although classical composer Milton Adolphus has also been cited.[citation needed] The lyrics were written by Gus Kahn. It was recorded by Wayne King and his Orchestra with vocal by Ernie Birchill on February 18, 1931 and released by Victor Records as catalogue number 22643. It was a top 20 hit for Frankie Laine in 1950. Later notably sung by Doris Day (who, in 1957, was the first singer to record it at the slow tempo in which it had been written), Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. It is perhaps best known for the rendition by "Mama" Cass Elliot of The Mamas & the Papas, in 1968, which sold 7 million copies worldwide. Source: Wikipedia.

  • Thanks very much. I would rather play than sing so I really appreciate your takinng the time to commenet on my croaking it out. Ed

  • Reminds me of when I was about 13 and walking around with a ukelele, [Christmas present, but couldn't play it]. My next door neighbor , [always cranky] was up on a ladder painting his house. He said to let him see the uke. Then he started playing and singing "My Diane". That's my name. I never saw him any other way after that, but a good man, Even though no one else liked him. Thanks Ed for the memories, Diane

  • Thanks you so much for your lovely story. I have forwarded your note to my children, grandchildren and good friends with the following comment. "Here is a sweet story from one of my YouTube viewers. Maybe we should hand out ukuleles on street corners. (Not accordions or kazoos....just ukuleles.)" Yor are very welcome for the memories. You have given me a nicememory too. Ed

  • Hey, Ed. Well done. Really good. I've just picked up the uke and so I'll be watching your channel for tips.

  • And thank you for the very nice words Ed. His name was Foster, but in those days we were not allowed to call adults by their first name. He was always Mr. Donahue to me. He put this song My Diane, in my heart forever, and I think of him when I hear this song. I am sure he would have no idea what a simple thing he did that day would make me remember him for so many years. Thanks again, and I am sure you know by now what your song meant to me. Now, How about doing "My Diane"? My best to you Ed.

  • Thanks for sayint that. I very much appreciated your thought. Ed
