Preserve North Dakota's Pharmacy Ownership Law!
The current statute mandates that all North Dakota pharmacies retain at least a 51% ownership by a pharmacist licensed in the state. The purpose of this law is to preserve access to pharmacy services for rural communities across North Dakota.
It is also to protect the welfare, safety and health of the public and to always ensure a pharmacist, someone who is clinically trained and educated in the profession, is in control of delivering pharmacy services to the public.
this Law is being challenged
This ownership law is being challenged in the upcoming legislative session to provide so called "affordable" medication by allowing mega stores such as Wal-Mart and Walgreens to sell pharmaceuticals in North Dakota. We need to keep ownership local.
National chain stores have no intention of moving to rural areas. If the law is overturned, pharmacies will be added to large stores along I-94 and Highway 2; not in small communities. North Dakota does not need big corporate CEO's and board rooms telling us how to practice pharmacy in our state.
