"I Still Call Australia Home" is a song written and performed by Peter Allen in 1980. In it, Allen sings of the Australian expatriate's longing for home.
It has been used to suggest Australian patriotism and nostalgia: for example, in Qantas television commercials where it was sung by the National Boys Choir of Australia and Australian Girls Choir (sometimes the group is collectively called the 'Qantas Choir'). And in 1984 Summer Olympics's Opening Gala TV special (in Los Angeles), Olivia Newton-John who sung Allen's most famous song I Honestly Love You, performed this song from Sydney, Australia with the Choir as medley Waltzing Matilda. Later, both songs were also used in a musical The Boy from Oz, about Allen's life, which starred Hugh Jackman.
"Waltzing Matilda" is Australia's most widely known bush ballad, a country folk song, and has been referred to as "the unofficial national anthem of Australia". The title is Australian slang for travelling by foot with one's goods in a "Matilda" (bag) slung over one's back.
The song narrates the story of an itinerant worker making a drink of tea at a bush camp and capturing a sheep to eat. When the sheep's ostensible owner arrives with three police officers to arrest the worker for the alleged theft (a crime punishable by hanging), the worker drowns himself in a small watering hole and goes on to haunt the site.
The original lyrics were written in 1887 by poet and nationalist Banjo Paterson. It was first published as sheet music in 1903. Extensive folklore surrounds the song and the process of its creation, to the extent that the song has its own museum, the Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton, Queensland.

  • @xEmoRawwrr she emigrated to australia when she was like 7 years old, that's aussie enough for me.

  • What a pity the sound and video are such low quality!

  • She's actually British..

  • @Niightversionn The song isn't referring to global climate change, but how the world's people are getting "older and colder" .

Remember the "greed is good" mindset that prevailed in the 80's?

  • One of my all-time, all-time favorite music videos. The ending is spectacular and Livvy never looked better!

  • This is just good stuff.

  • awesome performance!!! I remember seing this in the summer of 84 just after coming home from the swimmingpool!!!
