  • Cognovit, I presume you haven't reported many depositons. I've done seven thousand myself. The "older guy" is not trying to "usurp authority. He IS authority. Attorneys are advocates for the parties. Reporters ARE the record. We have an obligation to let everyone know when we are having difficulty understanding a witness. In my own twenty-something odd year career, there have been two occasions where I have flat out refused to continue with an unintelligible witness.

  • The male reporter was hilarious, and he was 100% correct in his actions. I have had doctors with the worst accents as witnesses, reading at breakneck speed from medical charts. It can be very difficult. Our job is to make a record. The attorneys are paying good money for that record. They appreciate when it's done correctly.

  • @forza88abod It means Time Out.

  • Even having sat through depos like that it still was funny as hell. Lol

  • @zalman595 your answer is PERFECT! Couldn't have said it better myself. Great job.

  • what means that move on 2:31??? : //

  • part of me is lauging, but the part of me that has had witnesses almost this bad is just cringing.

  • @nja1987 I know you have been warned that court reporting is an extremely stressful career. I did it 25 years, and it never got easy. It is, however, educational and interesting. Every time you think you've heard everything, something new pops up. Best of luck to you!

  • @L11045 I'm a court reporter student in my first level theory class. The faces that the reporters made made me laugh but this also kind of scared me to think of what I am in for.

  • The seasoned male reporter did the right thing. He has a legal right to request an interpreter. During my career I dealt with mumblers, cell phone users, gum smackers and even a drunk or two. Unfortunately, the drunks were attorneys. The "nice" will wear off those young reporters in a hurry. Either that, or they will quit and find other jobs. The attrition rate in court reporting is high. I doubt if many court reporters found this video funny.
