Are there any shihonages in aikido they way they do it in hapkido (knife defense)? Where you lock your arms after shomenuchi and just go straight forward without tenkan?
Yes, we also do shihonage for knife taking from Shomenuchi and also Yokomenuchi. There are some very direct techniques, in which you block or deflect the shomen and go straight for the shihonage arm bar without turning. Obviously with weapons disarming, you have to be aware of the blade and it's proximity to you and there is no time or space to do extra movements. JP
The key to proper technique execution is in the details. You have to analyze each part, then practice each part then put it all together smoothly. Keep on practicing. JP
