how to make digital look cinematic

You forgot to mention 24fps

@Alfoyle I think it has something to do with the composition of your scenes. Some movies really have wide scenes (Landscapes etc) and therefore dont want to display so much top and bottom but rather far left and right.
The human eye (you can try it yourself) cant see so much up and down as they see to the left and right, i guess it evolved like that since humans live in a flat world.
So i think in professional movie making, people think a lot about why to choose a certain format.

Film grain on digital just ruins it, don't need it if it doesn't come with it originally, unless you are doing a period piece or something.

Pls advice....
I shot a video In full hd 1080,
Editing in Corel Video X4, done, create movie file as AVCHD,
Then convert into mp4 to play on
my iphone.
But video doesnt run smooth
But it runs well on my pc.
Why?

I suggest also making use of the shadow/highlight tool to make shadowed objects lighter, before adjusting the contrast.
This, if done skillfully, will make it look closer to film in terms of dynamic range.^^ You don't lose it all in the darkness.

I Like the grain effect. Its kinda cool
Hi, what editing program did you use?

@heyandyVid This was merely Adobe Premiere Elements, which I have since upgraded to Final Cut Pro. Keep in mind this video is very old and no longer like the colour correcting style I used to use.

just keep in mind that adding grain makes your movie look like shit when you project it on the big screen

@8888Eastman, true, this can happen. But when you shoot real film it always has an element of natural grain to it, which varies depending on the ISO speed of the film. When you put added grain on, you have to make sure that there is only enough to add to the footage, and not to take away from it.

What settings did you use for your sat, bright, contrast?

@bodioto, I didn't use any specific settings, rather just went for what I liked.
But, I will always raise the contrast to about 20 or so, and thats a basis that I can then work from, using brightness, saturation, and colours.
