A song about Doctor Who, and the crappy, wouldn't-do-much-good-at-all-in-real-life CPR that we see from time to time on the show. I'm a little obsessed with it (the topic of the song, that is, not necessarily the song itself). I mean, it's not the only show that consistently demonstrates a lack of understanding of how CPR works. Don't even get me started on Lost. But at the moment I'm in a big Doctor Who kick, so it gets the song.

Spoilers for a couple of episodes, including a recent one. You're warned. Or if you don't care about DW, you can just listen for the pretty musics. Or whatever.

This might end up being part of a Trock (Timelord Rock) project that Heather and I are theoretically starting. Like Chameleon Circuit but with a fraction of the talent and a smaller fraction of the exposure. So stay tuned for probably more songs about Doctor Who.

Lyrics:
The hospital has been moved to the moon
And over run by a platoon of Judoon
They're looking for an alien and we're hoping they'll find her soon.

The Doctor and Martha Jones had built some rapport
But he's been sucked dry by the plasmavore.
Martha has to act quick, because he's lifeless on the floor.

And we all hope this works despite
the fact that she's not doing it right
She's not going to let him die tonight
Not now, not like this.

She remembers that the doctor has more than one one heart.
She does compressions on both, and they both restart.
Who cares that he's dying from exsanguination.
This is Doctor Who so CPR will save him.

Three seasons later, Rory has the black spot.
He's drowning, going to die, but then that happens a lot.
Being saved by the siren seems to be his only shot.

She takes him to her sick bay, and keeps him alive.
If they take him away he may not survive.
With a kiss of life from Amy, hopefully he'll revive.

And we all hope this works despite
the fact that she's not doing it right
She's not going to let him die tonight
Not now, not like this.

He trusts her not to give up, told her just what to do
He believes that she can save him, Amy's not sure that's true.
After just a minute Amy's already resigned.
But then Rory starts to cough, yeah he's perfectly fine.

He's perfectly fine

On TV shows, CPR technique is rarely correct.
They take lots of liberties for dramatic effect
And this show is certainly not an exception to the trend
If Amy had been trained she would have been happier in the end.

  • You should send this to Chameleon Circuit! Or join up with them and be their songwriter or something. This is great! (Oh look, Rory almost died... AGAIN.)

  • THANK YOU FOR THIS. THANK YOU. LOL.

  • I really love your song. Thought the same all the time.
