This award winning toy of 2007 uses advanced electromagnetic technology to float in mid air! There is no magnet above the globe for it to be suspended from, just the magnetic base below!

  • I just got one for my son and he took it out of the box and it worked right away, but after that, we all can't seem to make the globe float.

  • You need to use both hands, centre it right above the dot, and lift it up slowely. You can either start close to the base and lift up OR above the base and move down. But you should feel a "sweet spot" in the centre where it feels almost like it's pushing and pulling at the same time. That's where it will float.

Mine broke after having it for a little over a year though:( I don't know what happened. I think the power went out too many times and it was too hard on the unit and batteries.

  • I hope that helps tho and that you can get it to work. An other reason it may not work is with too many failed attempts the unit will overheat and go into a "stand by mode". That means you need to let it rest for about half an hour. Also the base needs to be level. So you might have to fold up some paper and wedge it under one side of the base and hope it levels out. It can be a pain sometimes, but once it's floating it should stay like that forever.

  • This is really cool, I got one for $80 from MyVirtualZoneDOTcom

  • oh yea? is it a globe or something else that floats?

  • Put some ants on this globe and they will walk to their death.. lol

  • I found the patent on Google Patent Search. In advanced search, type in "Title": "Levitation device". You're looking for the one filed on 2 Nov 2006 by Gohin et al. Application No. 11/592464, Pub. No. US 2007/0170798A1 .

    Enjoy.

  • 0:26 so thats how god gave up earthquakes

  • @U2fan24 So in other words you get the down force attraction, and then you crank up the electromagnetic field to a point where its same magnetic pole reacts to the floating magnet and pushes it upwards counteracting the down force attarction?

  • @U2fan24 Is this not an electromagnet inside, the power will heat the coils I'm sure, i think there is a combination of perm mags and electromagnetic. I'm only guessing but the there must be two alternating magnetic fields in the base and the electromagnetic field is stronger than the permanent field. The permanent magnet that floats could be merely the opposite pole to the permanent mag field inside, and the electromagnetic field is calibrated to maintain the correct amount of push or lift?

  • @U2fan24 I also found out that it will shut down due to overheating: I had it running for a few hours and it shut down as the base had become noticably warm. I guess this is because the large permanent magnets inside are fairly sensitive to temperature changes, as shown by the original spinning top -type Levitron.

  • Yeah, it looks pretty cool, but it Does cost a lot of money :$

  • Does the magnet fall down like in the cheaper versions of the Levitrons or are The "World stage" and "Revolution" models more expensive because the magnet doesnt fall down?

  • wow that was shit...

  • i want one of those but it costs too much money
