Amazing!!!

This is my favorite rendition of the song. Elaine Paige just has so much passion...you can really feel it in her performance.

Good...but I lean toward Idina's version....I just can't keep my eyes of her.
-
She 's the original and, by far, the best IMO, singing this as Florence Vassey in "Chess", opened at Prince Edward Theatre, London, May 14, 1986.

Paige has the passion! Best actress and singer ever!

The Kuhn version:

Paige is a great singer, superb, but I'm not crazy about her affected scoops and slides here. Nor about the way she whispers the verse sections almost inaudibly. Her rock or pop touches are unpersuasive.
My favorite version is still Judy Kuhn's on the American cast album. Kuhn's cut-crystal soprano bites into this song, making each word clear and forceful and making it, for me, even a more thrilling reading than Paige's fine one here.

I love it when she holds that long note! Perfect!

@lovebrun Oh yes, and a household name in the UK by 1986 - having released a few hit albums by this point and appeared fairly regularly on light entertainment TV programmes.
-
She performs this on her current UK tour for the first time, I think, since her 1987 tour.
Elaine has incredible control. She doesn't get too overboard, but expresses her passion through her voice enough that it becomes a powerful performance.
