I'm not really into R/C stuff but very good questions. I'll probably be getting the middle of the road stuff just for collecting purposes. The 20$ flyers look realy cheap but the one that comes with the communicator controler and tricorder charger is pretty nice. One more thought...Tyco should try to get it in stores before the 2008 holiday season. The new movie is due out May 8, 2009.
