The Second International Definiens Symposium was held at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, October 17-18, 2011.

24 presentations and 9 posters posters provided a comprehensive overview of image analysis solutions in biopharma and academia. A focus on tissue-based biomarker development emphasized the leading role of Definiens image analysis solutions in this interesting field and outlined exciting opportunities for the discovery of new predictive and diagnostic tests. The wide range of possible applications of Definiens image analysis solutions was illustrated by fascinating examples from radiology, PET-CT and stem-cell research for example. Insights into present and future of quantitative digital pathology were presented alongside use cases in pharma, example assays and solution development strategies. Definiens launched a new generation of products at the symposium and profited from immediate feedback in hands-on sessions and discussions with experienced users.
Participants came from North America and Europe and used lunch and coffee breaks for lively discussions and networking. The interactive spirit of the meeting was also apparent in intense question and answer sessions. The dense scientific program was complemented by an enjoyable evening event in Tampa's Latin quarter, Ybor City with excellent food and drinks.
