Onaga Michiko sensei executes kata Passai Dai at the Churasan Festival, Naha Japan, October 5, 2007. Onaga sensei is a 6th Dan in Shinjinbukan karate and has tremendous skill IMO.

  • Ya sorry he alone said was that "she left the dojo so she no longer trains." however u have a point, if you trained in a martial art ur whole life i would be hard to drop it completely

  • @bobw72 I trained with Onaga sensei from 2007-2010 while living in Okinawa. Your teacher is a great guy and has shared quite a bit with me every time we've gotten together. Stick by him and do your best to get some exposure to Onaga sensei if you get the chance. I currently live in Illinois and will soon open a dojo again now that I'm stateside. Maybe I'll see you at a gasshuku. Gambatte yo!

  • left the dojo... this is unfortunate because as a new student to this style of shorin ryu she was very inspirational. But i will still train hard to fully understand ti and am proud tob

  • @bobw72 Who is your sensei?

  • @bobw72 Looks like part of your commentary got cut off. Keep in mind that there is a difference between leaving the dojo and no longer training. By the way, who is your sensei? If you don't want to air it here, you can message me privately.

  • ... Now if i could only spell 'Shinjinbukan', I am sure that help as well.

  • @bobw72 I think Michiko sensei has no idea of what kind of reputation that she has earned. This is the last public demonstration that I saw her perform and her reasons for training are very personal. I hope to get more opportunities to train with her one day. Thanks bobw72 for your kind comments about her and the SJBK.

  • Shinjinbukan is an offshoot of Kyudokan, which is the school of Master Onaga's teacher - Yuchoku Higa. Higa Sensei was a student of Chibana but learned "ti" from Chojun Miyagi's student - Jinan Shinzato. This hip movement that is being questioned here is from the indigenous art of Okinawa. All kata should include it. Michiko's kata is flawless. She relies on the principles and concepts of her art and not on what everyone thinks they know about Karate. She is a delight to watch.

  • Whoa. She is awesome. I love to see the differences between every style. I practice Shorei Kempo and we call it Bassai Dai, its one of my favorite kata. Its really different from how we do it, but I love how sharp her movements are!
