How To Tell Your Parents You're Gay...
Thursday, September 17 2009
At the apartment, while Fish is reading the "How To Tell Your Parents You're Gay" book, Layla arrives home, and Fish says he hasn't changed his mind about telling his parents. Fish briefly talks about Kyle, and how he's seeing a new guy, and claims he couldn't be happier for him. Layla suggests he come clean with his parents, so he can move on too. In any case, Layla reminds Fish that he still has a day until his parents arrive. Suddenly, Cris comes through the door with a surprise - Fish's parents, who are semi-shocked to see that Layla's, Fish's girlfriend, is black. Mr. and Mrs. Fish apologize, for offending Layla, who assures them it's fine, but Mr. Fish expresses how different the young kids are today. As Mrs. Fish insists that Layla tell her all of the details of her and Fish's relationship, Fish snaps, "Layla's not my girlfriend. We broke up." Fish's dad urges him to open up to them and talk about what happened - and Fish gets the courage to spill the truth, about being gay, but when they all sit down to talk, Mr. Fish realizes he's sitting on something - Fish's How-To book! "What is this," Mr. Fish asks his son.

  • When Oliver's dad found that book I think a part of me just died inside

  • I understand that god tells them that gays are bad (wrong by the way) but I don't recall a part of the bible that says black people are bad, and genetic evidence says Jesus was middle eastern anyway

  • I read that this is the actor who plays Fish's real life mother.

  • havent cris ever hear of a txt??

  • i think what fish's mom says at 5:59 hints that she will probably be supportive of him after he comes out

  • omg, Layla is awesome! I love how supportive she is!

  • Re: Momma Evans...she acts like she's in John Waters' movie ;-P

  • Re: Kyle's parents...Wasn't Kyle raised in a foster home, just like his crazy, older sister Rebecca? Somehow his coming out story doesn't ring true to me. Maybe it's because I always justified his opportunism as a side effect of his life of neglect and uncertainty. If he had such a supportive foster family, I'd find a lot of his behavior disappointing.

  • hmmm well thats one way to hint to ur parents that ur gay lol love oliver :)

  • OMG!!
