In the various children's homes, each branch had its own range of decoration. Two branches from the mid 1960's are shown here. The branch at Brackley is decorated in attractive colours, the beds are made up with attractivly coloured covers and toys are allowed in the rooms.
The other bedroom is at the St Leonards branch, and is decorated in the famous two tone type colour scheme that the NCH often used around the entire building, often in gloss paint it stopped finger marks on the walls, the houses were often decorated in different colours around the various rooms, but most of the shardes were blue, grey or green with a cream on the upper part.
The bedroom has is standard rather basic style of bed and bedclothes, and there is a lack of toys in the room, an object like a toy helmet would not normally be allowed to remain in the bedroom. Many of the flats in the Harpnden branch were also decorated in a similar fashion.
With Sister tucking you in bed, if she returned it was easy to tell if you had been out of bed.
