Here is a brief description of some of the unique bamboo flutes I make, and which YOU can adopt!

The models include Bass Meditation Flutes, Raga Flutes (tuned to East Indian "Ragas" or modal scales), Panpipes, and Bamboo Birdcalls of all sorts. I also make some "regular" diatonic flutes (Do-Re-Mi), but specialize in the extremes of bass flutes and killer piccolos, and every size in between.

Unlike many flute makers, who seem to favor a certain species of predictable bamboo (typically "silver stripe"), I try to make various flutes out of interesting and uniquely beautiful pieces of bamboo, including very knotty, bent, curving, or naturally weathered specimens. Each piece is produced in a process of extended meditation, whereupon I try to allow the bamboo to inform me of what type of flute it will become, instead of trying to be the overlord who demands that everything in his vicinity conform to his own rigid idea, thereby producing cookie-cutter mass-produced flutes that have a dim spirit. Not that any other flute maker is like that, but I'm just stating a hint of my personal principles!

P.S. I have many CDs available, and you can hear some at www.MySpace.com/dassmusic

Have fun! Hope to hear from ya!

  • How to make a pan flute sir i make one but that have no sound i use pvc pipes can you tell me how to make one and is there a holes in pan flute or inside some thing ...

  • There are many places on the web showing you how to make them! Good luck and I do hope you make one that has sound! PVC is great for flutes and stuff, excellent tone, and indestructable too...

  • hay das... What kind of bamboo do you favor?

  • I just try to use any weird kind that I find. I know other flutemakers favor "Silver Stripe" but I like to see what I can make of old dead pieces with strange bumps and character markings on them... even ones damaged by bugs can be repaired and have a really cool vibe...
