Half done cleaning and changing out the cascade mirrors on this lightbar. I'm adding the larger full size ones on the right. This old bar is chain driven similar to the first generation FS Visi-bar which used two separate beacons on a bar. It was very common on late 60's and early 70's police cars.

  • Where did you get the big single mirror?

  • This is just an example of period options that were available.

I picked up a set of forward facing cascade mirrors on eBay.

  • Nice vid Cliff. Love the chain drive and the whirring sound of the gearbox. I'm sure I've seen similar but where the static mirrors are on yours, there's another couple of rotating mirrors probably all chain driven. Not sure it was Fed Signal that produced them though, thanks again for the vid, Craig

  • Hmmm. Sounds like your describing the Code 3 PSE unit Craig. It was very similar to the FS unit but had an extra set of rotators next to the speaker center. And was belt driven. One belt per side. Maybe I can get a video of of it for you in the very near future.

  • Mine has the X mirrors as well, I converted them to point one direction by taking the top one, turning it upside down, and bolting them together. Works great! Love the Twinsonics.

  • Very sneaky!! I had considered that at one point.

Thankfully I found a set of single direction FS cascade mirrors on eBay last spring. They are in nice shape!

  • Perfect back ground noise for the video.

  • God I loved these old light bars back in the day! THIS was the technology back then and man were they good bars. I remember switching out some older Dietz "Yankee" light bars for the TwinSonic and Aerodynic systems. We were in hog-heaven when we got these things because the light patterns were so much more attention-getting, not to mention a lot *brighter* than the Yankee bars.

Man I sure loved these old light bar set ups, and the chain & gear drive systems were so damn reliable :)

  • It works on the same principle as a rotisserie

  • A light bar for a much simpler time. Have you thought of converting it to the California spec model?
