and the fun goes on!

This is the oldest of the commercial side loaders I filmed this day. Pak-Mor's HLR is likely the most popular commercial side loader in use today (from what I have seen) and are still in production. These truck however have a more limited reaching ability, but enough to get the job done

This is also a 33 yard body like the SEC. Pak-Mor has a very unique lift design, where the hopper cover is actually what lifts the arm. That way the cover will never inflict upon the dump cycle, and also this arm doesnt have the lift arms swinging out from the side of the truck, which in the case of residential collection, prevents hitting of tree branches and other objects. Due to the nature of this arm, the dumpsters tilt backwards a little bit when lifted, but not enough to cause any issue with overloaded containers.

And I still cant decide which of these trucks I have filmed, is my favorite! Though this one is certainly fun to watch with the large hopper cover. At the time I filmed this, this truck was near full which is why he was packing continuously at a couple stops.

Run by Palos Verde Valley Disposal, which is now a CR&R company. Again, thanks to the awesome drivers for allowing us to tag along for a bit of their day!

  • F**ken hell you've videoed some mad trucks! It was cool enough watching the SEC, then we've got this old Volvo with that extremely awesome engine sound (btw is it a Cummins?) which was priceless to listen to =] I loved the roadside shot with the different dumping perspective, but those numerous pack cycles were fantastic, even seeing the blade stop through that small aperture in the body. Also thanks for the closer views of the lifter, makes sense how everything works and latches. Top job again!

  • @MitchellM15 Thanks! comments like yours are why I still do all this :D Not sure on the engine, though cummins is likely what it is. The roadside shot was a last second idea that turned out really well I think. I happened to see the opening in the body where the packer shortly after I began that clip and thought "how convenient is that?" There used to be 3 more cities south of here that used commercial side loaders, but they were taken over by..pains to say it but... republic. traditional FLs..

  • IMO i enjoyed the pakmor more. loved how the top would open as he brought up the dumpster. reminds me of the IFL PWS used to have. and sweet looking volvo grill

i wonder if they use this truck for residential or just commercial. garbagekid1 has one in action doing residential but on the beach :P

    great video and packing shots!!!

  • @TheTrashman97 thanks! yea, I saw the pakmor on the beach with the custom grippers from amrep too. Its pretty cool. I enjoy this one for the top door also, sure adds some additional excitement to an already awesome process (IMO)

  • Well this truck is pretty darn cool. Do the resi grippers close a tiny bit near the beginning of the cycle, or come out or something? Noticed that both with dumpster going up and it going down on the 2:04 stop. Either way I like how loose that whole piece is, just this giant chunk of metal that kind of sways around (like just after 3:27 lol)

Is this operated by a joystick? Wonder how this would get to be after running one for a while. Wouldn't seem so unusual as it is to us now...great vid!

  • @Trashman242 I think he had them open just a tiny bit so they were flopping around a little, or the joints are just worn out on this truck since its so old. They dont play any part in the dump cycle from what I saw. You know, I didnt see how it was controlled. but looking at the approaching shot in the last clip, it looks like he had his hand on a joystick in the center console. Personally, I think I wouldnt mind driving one of these. Sure as hell beats pushin dumpsters all day long!

  • @3amrepmike3 Well whatever that engine is, it falls under my favourite sounds list :P Should we be surprised to see something different go when a big player takes over? I was surprised enough when I saw that WM Rotopress the other day, trying something different and "foreign"!

  • @garbagekid1 haha I think about the residents being lucky all the time when I find an awesome truck LOL oh, and the things that latch down on the dumpster to hold it in, those arent the grippers I'm talking about ;) thanks for the compliments :D

  • yes the fun does go on! ;D thats pretty cool that you got both one w/o a hopper cover and one with kind of crazy to see the way the "grippers" lock on the way up when you see it from a distance it's like "how the heck do those things grab a dumpster?" loved the shots great camera work mike some people (aka the residents) just dont realize how lucky they are to see specific trucks like that amrep and this every week! awesome post!!!!
