At least at the busiest sectons there should be total seperation between cars and bicycles, not a tokenist lane, as well-meant as they may be. Seperate cyclepaths of a good quality work well in the Netherlands. It can do the same everywhere. Roadskills are not impeded, on the contrary, the cyclepaths make it possible to start cycling further at a very young age. That's where mass cycling starts: young children. They will keep cycling their whole lives because they know it's fun, fast and safe!

They are panning more idiotic routes ! The roads are now covered in blue yelow red and white markings with associated street signs . totally confusing and a recipe for terrible accidents . This is a terrible waste of money and is so badly planned as to look like the work of a maniac let loose with money and a pot of paint ! The politicians are disconnected from real life .

It should be called a bicycle awareness route. 'Cycle ~Super Highway' is Orwellian and bizarre. In English it's a 'motorway' which means multiple lanes separated from other road users. These blue lines -legally- aren't even cycle lanes, just blue paint. Street furniture is not removed, so cross road visibility is poor. The traffic lights don't give advanced start/

Repaint and show LCN3, encourage people to use it. It's quicker and safer.

A bicycle is not a toy. Separating bicycles from traffic is what government is trying in the US. It doesn't work. It keeps new cyclists from developing road skills and turns cycling into a pure recreation activity. The last thing a city needs is separated bike paths. The solution is to integrate cyclists fully into the traffic system. We do this by taking away all those silly road markings and blue paint, and let cyclists do what they've been doing for over 100 years - use the road.

The cycle superhighway is simply an old-fashioned bike lane with an updated name. They still have all the problems that make bike lanes more dangerous than simply cycling on the road: they take driver attention away from the cyclist by pushing him off to the side, and they invite collisions from turning cars. A true superhighway would have nothing but bikes on it and it would be contiguous and unbroken. Until we have that, all the talk about improvements is just a lot of hot air and blue paint.

Jenny - the blue lanes are a complete mess! A complete waste of public money and a national embarrasment !!

I don't think you are in touch with reality but I would like to know how much money Tfl has wasted on blue roadpaint ? - have you seen what can be achieved by visiting Germany or Holland or Belgium . ? Separate cycles completely from traffic - then even I will cycle as i have in Germany and Holland.

From what I can see, the superhighways dodge the key issue - giving a continuous safe route on their whole length. They seem to do what all cycle lanes do - give up the ghost when the going gets tough.

Thanks for the video and for the investigation. We all need to contribute as users and as londoners. Maintenance of lots of blue I don't think is such a good idea. On the other hand Barclays is happy to have blue everywhere. So they can wash off their image and try to invest in green. In green and in blood with the weapons.
