First of all, what makes you think, at the current time, Taiwan belongs to China?
So what is wrong for ethnically Chinese people living in Taiwan to call themselves Taiwanese, the name of their country? So, for example, does it make sense that white Americans always refer to themselves as "Irish" or "German", the countries of their ancestry and not "American", their country of their citizenship?

My parents are from Taiwan, now I personally don't care wheter Taiwan belongs to China or not, but it bothers me that a lot of people from Taiwan, or "Taiwanese" is what they like to call themselves claims that they are not "Chinese". Really? Over 98 percent of people in Taiwan are "ethnically" Chinese, but there are many that disproves that claim also. So that makes me think the majority of "Taiwanese" people who are ethnically chinese are basically embarassed that they are. PATHETIC...
