Music is subjective. Musicals push a whole different scale. Bette Midler isn't sitting around comparing herself to Patti LuPone or vice versa. True fans recognize that music isn't the same for everyone.

Exciting to imagine Streisand and Anne Hathaway in this scene. Midler was too screechy and over the top to garner much sympathy in this role. Vocals were only passable.

I love both movies, im a huge Bette Midler fan, Cynthia Gibb did a good job! I know this is not the best movie .. but somehow it's adictive, and much better than most movies they make today. Patti LuPone is a godess, but i do enjoy more Bernadette Peters.

This is not as powerful as the LuPone performance...

"Show us your talent!"

"THAT'S IT!"
Something about this movie always feels so cheap to me. I think Bette could have been quite good if the director had reigned her in a little bit more. She's too hammy for the role and I usually love Bette.

I kinda like Natalie Wood's performance more than Cynthia Gibbs. It doesn't feel as strong as hers
