Bendrix Tutorial #4: Organizing Circles in Google+


As of July10, 2011 Google+ are organized in alphabetical order. Before that everything was disorganized with no rhyme or reason... This is cool now because you can now locate your labels. For example if you have the labels titled "family" "friends" "music lovers" "technology" ...it will all organize in that order... But suppose you wanted "technology" first and "music lovers" second.. because these happen to be the people you wish to post to the most? Then you have a dilemma on your hands especially if you have a list of 10 or 20 or 30 circles???

Well I have a solution.. in much of the alphanumerical computing world organizational listings usually go with the numbers first then the letters next... So the numbers 1, 2, 10, 100, 1000 all come before the letter A. So my advice is to number which Circles you would like to go first, second and so on.. But don't just number them 1, 2, 3... I recommend that you number them 01, 02, 03.. 10, 20... like that because if you don't ahhh forget it take my word for it ... or if you wanna find out what happens be my guest and then you will say gee I should have listened to bendrix :) ... seriously though follow the number scheme that I recommend and all will be fine with you organizing your circles.

First of all you might ask why should I care and why does this matter to me... Well each time we are prompted in the G+ Stream to "+Add circles or people to share with" usually the first Circle or in an unnumbered listing happens to be the first alphabetical listing of circle labels... so rather than being locked into which circle you see first in the posting area, its faster and more efficient to customize it the way we want it. We are also shown the first 5 circles in the Stream listing off on the left hand side when we are on the "Home" page. I'm personally for fast and easy access not for searching for circles when I should be posting or checking out other circle feeds. After being on this site for about 2 weeks now I'm finding that this alphanumeric listing to be most helpful and i finally know which Circle I need without much hassle.

Remember spread this information around and share your knowledge... we are all stumbling in this G+ wilderness and the more people understand this G+ ecosystem the faster we can rescue our friends and family from Facebook.

Tried this too... didn't work for me

I am on a quest to do this, but nothing works for me. Just followed this tutorial, I have only a few friend so I deleted all my circles and started 3 new ones. They do not organize, despite using '01. x', '02. y'. :(
