Man, that cozy crowd watching that concert were really treated to something special. They just finished listening to a tune that was beyond the pale. speaking of pale...Heyward could have used a suntan for that concert, but what a voice.

Moody Blues not in the R&R hall of fame?What an outrage.I am tired of Prog bands being snubbed by the rock mainstream when we all know they are the very best musicians in all rock and who can argue with the great vocals by Justin Heyward and the boys.

@bze2nlz4 so right you are that Mellotron looks like a Hammond b2. It`s all a mix of live and recorded backings.

I would love to have someone tell me that the music today can even come close in quantity and quality of what came out in the 60s, 70s (Moody Blues, Stones, Beatles, Floyd, Zep, The Who, on and on)?

That's one funky looking place to perform. What is that? A pool in front of the stage with some of the audience perched on the edge in front of the band? Weird.
-
@alienhuman The BBC did the same, over a similar, Renaissance concert.

It's absolutely live.

@bze2nlz4 definitely live vocals
I think it was live. Very often transfers to the YouTube system jump time and load out of sync. How else could Justin do that guitar solo at the front and trail ends ...

@mrcircumspect1 Live vocals only...over the original studio backtrack. The dvd I got this off of sounds totally the same. Even YT's content ID system caught it, which means it's the copyrighted recording. If it were totally live, you wouldn't see an Artist/Amazon/iTunes ad below the video.

@mrcircumspect1 It was live. Some people do not realize how well Justin plays the guitar (and he was using his 12-string for effect) and sings. Can anyone catch one single instant that Justin's licks or mouth looks dubbed? No. Check out Justin's solo performances on YouTube 30-40 years later. Of course his fellow members helped in this video. Concerning a mellotron or an organ, only muscians can decide on that.

@MyPaulHenry Read my reply to mrcircumspect1 above. It's the original studio backtrack, caught by YouTube's content ID system. The guitar riffs at the beginning and end are part of the original 'single version' of the song (changed for the album release). Check out Justin singing here, his hand is barely moving on that guitar, and John's not playing at all! The mellotron can be heard, but it's NOT there. Watch 'Moody Blues-Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970' video...THAT'S LIVE.

@bze2nlz4 Well you might have me with John not playing. I admit I saw it. But I am not sure John was needed because of the drums and other effects. He did play later, right? I hear his booming. So why not fail to start and then later start? That is evidence John intentionally did not play to allow the pureness of Justin's voice and his guitar talent be the essence of the song. I don't know all the in's and out's of music, but I can see passion in Justin.

@MyPaulHenry True....and I've always LOVED Justin's passion :)

@MyPaulHenry (cont.) just to clarify...John isn't playing at the very beginning. Normally, they both play the intro!
