Danny Boy is one of Irelands most beautiful traditional songs. Its heart-breaking though very real at the same time. Andy Williams sang it too.

  • I'm not diggin' the singing.

  • Actually, the tune was written by Jane Ross who lived in Londonderry County. Technically it is in the UK, but it is on the same island as Ireland. Much of the population of the area was Irish, therefore the tune "Londonderry air" is considered a traditional Irish tune. Frederic Weatherly wrote Danny Boy to a different tune originally and it failed miserably. He discovered the tune fit with his words and VOILA...the Danny Boy we know was born. So, it's both English and Irish.

  • Danny Boy was written by an Englishman in the early 20th century, it's not a traditional Irish song ;)
