British outfit Mobiles with the hauntingly beautiful "Drowning In Berlin" from 1981. One of my favourtie tracks of all time.

I remember the first time I heard it many many years ago,
I was instantly captivated. And the video is just as innovative as the track itself.

Check other Mobiles tracks Amour, Amour and Tiptoe In Paradise, just BRILLIANT!

  • In many ways the early 80's were even more productive and original than the 60's. This song is a fabulous amalgam of music, art, theatre and the surreal. For some reason we seem to have lost the knack of producing classics like this and today's bewildered and unfortunate youngsters are fed garbage by the all-powerful corporations who assure them that fat,foul-mouthed chav "soul" singers are outrageously talented. The album chart is a depressingly bleak wilderness.

  • The lead singer is very attractive and delicate, exactly what a glamorous woman should look like and something that lacks in todays music.

This track NEEDS to be on Itunes.

  • the 80s was one of the best decades for music

  • this is perfect........

  • @purplepelican69 I couldn't agree more - the early 80's (and the late 70's which engendered it) are vastly underrated in terms of original creativity. Personally I would place it second only to the second half of the 1950's which of course generated rock'n'roll in the first place! Purely personal opinion and perhaps controversial (yes, I do know the 1960's happened in between!) - but that's just what I think in terms of musical and artistic originality!

  • @purplepelican69 The chavs and commodity singers will fall eventually. They will be replaced by computers.

  • Videos in those days were so freaking unintentionally funny. Love it.

  • I weep with the monkey.

  • I remember seeing this on TOTP when I was little - and being freaked out by the guy who does the talking bit in the song!

There was definitely an embarrassment of riches with music in the early 80s. And I think that we all took it for granted at the time. But even now, I find myself enjoying the songs from back then even more than I did then - and also have enjoyed discovering music from back then that I didn't know of at the time!

Herd this as a bumper to a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation show today. Had quite but not quite forgotten about it. Thanks for the post.
