The Sexto Sol Center collaborates with rural people to create solutions to poverty in Chiapas and Guatemala. This is an introduction to the work of the non-profit, our on-going programs, and our projects since 1997. We focus on helping people better market their products, grow nutritious food and live sustainably, reforest and protect the watershed, create environmental justice, further the respect of the rights of indigenous people, improve schools for indigenous children, promote language revitalization, and help people heal the trauma of war and natural disasters. We advocate for public policy based on respect for all life. Volunteers and interns are an integral part of our work. Underlying all our service is the effort to instill the notion of the "common good" through community action. Making progress toward a better world is a team effort. How good it is to see this slide show, and remember the great time I had when I visited with Tamara and Francisco in Motozintla. The countryside is truly that gorgeous and the smiles are truly that wide.
Tamara and Francisco are accomplishing so much with limited means. If you are considering supporting Sexto Sol, or increasing the level of your support, I encourage you to do so. They don't waste a penny! I am glad to be their friend.
