This is one of my favorite Joe South songs, full of truths and honesty. He had to reach deep inside to come up with these wonderful lyrics.

As I recall, this song was a hit on the Country music charts by Freddy Weller, who was earlier the bass player for Paul Revere and the Raiders.

If I'm not mistaken, he wrote this for Billy Joe Royal. I don't think he had much national success with it. But, I really think Joe South does this better than anyone else I've heard sing it.

Just to let you know, amazon(dot)com has a lot of Joe's music up for like 89 cent downloads.
Also, you can save a decent quality copy of these on youtube into .mp3 files with a nifty little free program called vixy (.net) you can download either the windows or Mac versions. You can also use the on-line converter but it's slower - and tends to be busy a lot of the time.
You just restart the program 4 each URL
