Also for the information part, do you have to add a gree page next to the map in order to let the info show up?

I was wondering to create such a map, which is better, adobe flash cs5 or this flash 8??

On my map I have created a couple of the buttons keep flashing when I roll over them kinda of like a strobe. How do I fix this? I feel it may have something to do with the way I arranged the layers. Help please!!!

thank you for the quick response! I'm now able to lasso each state, but I don't see how it will be perfectly traced. Every time my hand moves a little bit the outline goes off and the tracing is imperfect. Will that not mess up the mouseover effect, as it will change to a slightly differently shaped version of the state?
thank you so much for your help!
If you haven't spent too much time on this project already, I would suggest switching to AS3.
If you don't want to do that, your problem probably has to do with your hotspots. Does the strobe thing happen even you are over the center of the state?
I think that your hotspots are overlapping- ex your outline of georgia touches that of florida, and flash is confused about which one to change.
Cheers, and good luck!

Like I said, zoom in (600 or 800%) till all you can see is the state, and then you can get pretty close to perfect. the mouseover effect wont be messed up by such a small discrepancy. what you can also do, is make a background that is the entire map. that way, if you make a slight mistake from cutting out your states, viewers wont be able to tell

by right clicking the image, and choosing break apart.
the reason u cant edit it is because it is a symbol, you can only edit bitmaps.

dshane: you can trace states perfectly by zooming in, and then using the lasso tool. this way is very quick and painless. another way (but less reliable) is to use the magic wand tool (in fireworks or photoshop) to seperate different colored states, and then import everything into flash.
to select from ur map, u have to break apart the image (continued)
