The super Max Mensing, well known for singing this sort of song. Although the world was in the process of going mad there still seemed to be some normaility in 1936 and performers could just about get away with the connotations within this song. Surprising how many of the singers had pseudonyms.

These pictures show men in women's attire because the army controlled them so much even to dress as women!

I wouldn't classify this as a "gay" lyric; it is sung my a male singer & it was then the case that most dance bands' "resident vocalists" were men, who sang lyrics for both sexes in their audiences. A few bands had female resident vocalists, who sang the lyrics of songs written "to" women and men, although this became more common during & after the WW II (Bert Ambrose in London had e. g. Vera Lynn, Anne Shelton & Kathy Kirby at differing times). It's very sweet, nonetheless.

"Be a little bit dear to me, Peter, be a little bit nice to me, Peter, und don't act as though I was merely air to you. Have you ever thought back, Peter, and thought about our happiness, Peter? Once it appeared as though you were very much in love with me. Ich hear your words still, to you I could be faithful, that can't simply be over? Be a little bit dear to me Peter, be a little bit nice to me, Peter, then I also shall later, be truly dear to you."
