Music: Warda "Erjah la hayatek"
This is one of my "feel good" performances. Except for the initial veil mishap, I felt really really good given the fact that I was 5 week post low abdominal surgery (equiv to C-section). I practiced weeks before surgery then 1 week before the competition. I would not recommend dancing /training right away after a major surgery, but my scar was healed & I was given the medical OK as long as I did not put too much intra-abdominal pressure (ie belly undulations, rapid squats, running upstairs, etc). (I'm also a physician & as a dancer I'm in tune with my body).
We had driven 13 hours from Jersey to Chicago the day before. On the day of the competition, I meditated & stayed away from the painkillers. The adrenaline of the competition & seeing my dance friends made me relax already.
I entered this competition several months before knowing about my surgery & did not want to cancel. This routine allowed me to enter the Finals that evening. This is what it took for me to get to this point. Who said Bellydance was glamourous?
I loved your performance. I hope to meet you again some day. Mariah
