the Williams Renault that Mansell drove 1992 was the best package of the year. It seems to me that with Mansell they also had best driver hmmm. Good thing I could see this on Eurosport (puches chest).

@dextersno1fan Not many people know that when Mansell first tested the Lotus in F1, he had a broken back. He still tested the car anyway, and got the drive. The rest is history. Forza Il Leone.

He won the F1 world trophy in 1992. A year later in 1993 he won the IndyCar trophy as well, how great is that? The only down bits in his career is that he newer won the Monaco GP or Indy 500.

@daheeheahs Montoya didn't fail in 2000. He won 3 times (in CART). 4 if you count an Indy 500 where he absolutely spanked ass. I think, more than anything, it was the fact that Ganassi had switched to an engine (Toyota) that had never won a race prior to 2000, and they didn't adjust as well as they thought they would.

@mynkNX Well I guess you should have left off Zanardi, Da Matta and Bourdais as well, as they all ran f3000. As I said before, success is all about having the best ride. Like Mansell, Montoya failed in his second year of CART because he no longer had the best ride. Look at all the former F1 drivers who followed in Nigels footsteps and had mid-pack mediocre careers in CART. With Takuma Sato being the lastest. I like F1, but I've always been amazed at the sense of elitism from it's fanbase.

@daheeheahs I left montoya out because he raced in europe most of his time (f3000) then he came to usa blew everybody away and then f-1...

@mynkNX Da Matta and Bourdais are hardly relevant to this discussion as both came along while Cart was still hanging on by a thread. Zanardi and Andretti were destined to fail because they were #2 drivers, and it's well documented how Andretti was screwed by McClaren (even Senna defended him). Montoya, which you conveniently left off, had a good career with 7 wins and 30 podiums. Fact is, success in racing is about getting the best ride. (Ex. Mansell '93=success. Mansell '94=failure.)

@daheeheahs cart champions in f-1? michael andretti, zanardi, da matta, bourdais... total nobodys. well villeneuve had the best car in '97, anybody would have won the title with that williams.

@mynkNX -Your assessment of American racing is not very objective. First off, Mansell was handed the best ride in all of IndyCar in 1993, how many other drivers would have won the championship in that same ride? I'd say quite a few. Mansell showed he is human in his 1994 CART effort.
How many Cart champions have made the switch to F1? Not enough to draw the kind of conclusions you are making. In fact, Cart Champion Jacques Villeneuve had instant success in F1 and won the world title.

That is the worst map of Sufers Paradise ever...
Simply the best times for british flag waving, as Mansell fresh from winning the FI took Indy by storm and won the Indy title in his rookie year. And it all started here with is 1st win. Enjoy. I did at the time and will again watching this.

I grew up with him being britains best. I think he got a terrible raw deal, loved his honesty. Whilst being slagged off all the time by the press he never personally insulted other drivers. He sold his house to race, is a good family man and a plain speaker. I love him, but not in a sexual way!
