Arizona lines up against Westboro Baptist Church

The Westboro Baptist Church is known for picketing the funerals of American soldiers. They claim God is punishing America for tolerating homosexuality and other 'sins'.

Westboro claims God appointed Arizona shooter Jared Loughner to retaliate against the church's enemies. Members plan to protest the funerals of his victims, who include a 9-year-old girl.

eader Fred Phelps derided gravely-injured Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords as "an avid supporter of sin and baby killing," in reference to her pro-abortion and gay rights stances.

But we wonder if Phelps, like so many other reverends staunchly opposed to gay tolerance, is actually overcompensating?

Arizona lawmakers have passed emergency legislation to keep Westboro away from the shooting victims' funerals.

Groups such as the Phoenix Motorcycle Rider Group and others are organizing to block Westboro members from gaining access to the funerals.

Meanwhile, Phelps would be wise to not incur the wrath of the God in whose name he claims to act.
