This time the cycling really takes place in Holland (which is in the west of the Netherlands). In North-Holland to be precise, in and around the city of Alkmaar.

Since it is all windmills, tulips and bicycles in this video a bit of corny music seemed fitting. 'Ik hou van Holland' (I love Holland) by 1960s child singer Heintje, a street organ and on the accordion. You can't really go much more Dutch than this...

On 30 April the Dutch celebrate their National Holiday.

  • Just goes to show, you don't need ridiculous looking helmets for just cycling along a road, like you do in Barmy Britain

  • Magic!

  • @drwhofigures1 dat is nou precies wat ik in de eerste zin van de omschrijving uitleg.

  • @Gana35 About the helmets: there isn't a regulation that states the use of helmets: though parents with young children are more and more using them for their kids: I learned biking without a helmet, including many falls ;)

About indicating turns: that is, to my opinion a negative side-effect to the rule that a motorist is always at fault in an accident between car and bike...

  • @HelterSkeltertjes Dat weet ik ;)

  • My grandmother was born in Alkmaar in 1892 and came to America when she was just a child. My father and all 4 of my grandparents were born in Holland. I have a heart for Holland and Hollanders! Dorothy in Twin Falls, Idaho, USA......born in California. God bless Holland! ~OneKewpie~

  • I remember when I was working and had to take a van to Alkmaar to collect some product from one of our suppliers, I was stunned to see this lass just cycling along on a path right beside the A9..

  • @Zoza15 That's also because mandatory helmets are frowned upon by the Dutch cycling unions. They're afraid that motorists would see cyclists with helmets as less vulnerable and so become more careless around them. The aim is that motorists are as carefull and responsable as possible. We f.i. also have a law that when a motorist and an cyclist are in an accident together that the motorist is always at vault, untill proven otherwise.

  • @Zoza15 because we have cycling paths everywhere at every road. and warning signs about passing cyclers at every corner.

  • @Gana35 Thats Redicilous!, little kids dont even need to wear helmets for cycling..
