In a story where the United Kingdom has been overrun by a ruthlessly superior force, the remnants of the British Army suffer defeat after defeat in a failing ground war. When a war is un-winnable, when does defeatism become accepting reality. Who decides when surrender is cowardice or that bravery proves nothing more than a delusion.

This was my final drama produced while studying at Edinburgh's Telford College in 2009. It premiered at the Edinburgh Filmhouse on the 10th of june 09 to decent avail.

Critical-Response
THE LOSING EDGE (Grant Rutherford) may be a little rough around the edges but certainly manages to build up a tense atmosphere in this tale of an army mission gone wrong.

Paul Thompson

I had actually begun filming a different script which i had intended to be my drama production, however when one of my actors decided to pull out mid-production, i was forced to restart with a new and easier idea. This script was my last minute attempt to complete my course. Although i was satisfied with the result to an extent, this entire project was shot a cut in a matter of 3 weeks and unfortunately it shows in my opinion. But please inform me of yours....

  • Did you get lots of actors or are thay all dubled at the start.Really good film

  • @MrMarkyschannel - Thanks man, the scene at the start was done with the same 4 extra's, I had them repeat the action of walking forward, then being shot as they ran back 6 times and then cropped them into 1 shot later in post. If you look hard you can see some errors in my edit though.

  • What song is this?

  • @NewWhitelandAirsoft - 24 Preludes, Op. 28: Prelude No. 15 in D flat major by Idil Biret. It was composed and recorded in my city, Edinburgh.

  • The moral divide between the soldiers was really good. The film does give you something to think about (not a lot of films do nowadays)

Writing's clever, it escalates and it's paces out nicely.

It's a shame a lot of idiots here are taking this for an action film, when it's not, it's deeper. They can go back to their brainless CoD action films that have no story or meaning.

This has a story / something to think about. IMO easily puts it above other short films.

    Story > action, Always.

  • @MegaCamel7 I only take critical advice from people who actually make their own material. Checked your channel and your just one of those sad individuals who spends their time criticizing other peoples work while contributing nothing themselves.

  • I don't think a British lieutenant would shoot a wounded soldier. Perhaps I am just very naive but wouldn't they just load him up with morphine if they thought he was dying anyway?

  • excellent stuff guys.check our page for similar stuff.

  • NOT ENOUGH ACTION

  • @BeScotFree Oh, and for the "critique" call on the weapons, they do tend to change hands and get damaged in a tight situation as this short clip does depict. Should see an elite sas unit go out to action. They carry all kinds of ordinance. whatever gets the job done. Does not have to look uniform or pretty like swedens lol...it just has to work when needed :) The parade ground and the battle field are two different worlds. Good work on a first my friend.

  • @BeScotFree Well, i dont make my own films sorry, i suffered 30 years of the military with my first 6 in the rhodesian army starting at age 15. Went to auss in 1980 after the fall. So please, no critique from me on the film. think it builds the atmosphere well enough and a little excitement. but i assure you, study well the charactors rolls first. To shoot a wounded would have been a call to drop weapon and then a bullet in the brain. You dont ask twice in the field.

  • That was surprisingly great for a short! Well done, especially the LT's acting. Soundtrack was a great choice (remembered it from the Halo 3 diorama)

  • @TorBjurlen This is not the british army, just some students project.

  • @TorBjurlen we now have ever a susat or acog on all rifles istead of just a susat + we only use iron sites for training and you carry them on you into combat just incase yore optics get's shot but on the acog we have a little back-up red dot sight on top of it happy 2 help
