Yeah, my dad told me the same story when I was a kid, and he would sell furniture out of a large moving truck back in the pre-early 1980's. My dad meet Mattress Mack years ago before he was a millionaire and pretty much what You said is true.

while he is indeed, an asshole, he did start with literally 15 bucks in his pocket, found some torn up free furniture in a broken down lot, and sold his way from the ground up.

Now, he is a powerful man.

I even ask my Dad's friend Tim years later when I ran into him at a local store about the Mattress Mack story. It was true..

My Dad's friend Tim buy a bed from mattress mack years ago and the delivery service was late and they give him the wrong bed and mattress mack won't give back his money or give hm the right bed and he went to court over it and won and from what my Dad told me of the story from his friend is just too funny to explain here.. But Mattress Mack was jumping around and he was piss off and fired his laywer on the spot and start talking crap to my Dad's friend and useing the N word. It was funny.

I talk and seen matress mack a few times when I vist Gallery Furniture years back when it cheapier to buy stuff there and he was kind of a prick, each time that I talk to him.. my friend John from high school work at Gallery Furniture for a part-time job in the summer and he would always see Mattress Mack talking crap about Customs when there wasn't any in the store or he would talk bad about Hispanics and Blacks. I'm not making this up..

You must be nutz Huehnerfuss, if You live in Houston, Gallery Furniture is not the cheapest place in Houston anymore and hasn't been in more than 18 years...

There are many hole in the wall places that sell the same stuff as Gallery Furniture for 1/3 of the price.. The only real thing going for Gallery Furniture is Mattress Mack and his famous commericals that are always on 24/7 and his delivery service that will ship almost anywhere in the country now and almost anywhere in the world.

urban myth or socalled rumor here in Houston is that Mattress Mack has close ties to the Mod and he does alot of crazy stuff behind the screens and to some circles in the underworld he has his own crime empire.. But only urban myth stories, no hard facts to back it up.

Supposedly he is a former crack head, and I mean it is kind of obvious dude used to or maybe even still does some serious drugs. But nonetheless I found him hilarious. Actually never heard of him till a friend of mine told me about him a few months ago. I wish his commercials aired in Austin
