The song is about a river called Balj and a girl named after the river (Baljmaa). So, it is about both home and first love. Though the song was written in early 1990s its lyrics and rhyming are so perfect and similar to those of ancient mongol songs which .. I think ..made the song extremely popular. The river goes by Chingis's birthplace. Both the poet and the composer/singer are from that area of Mongolia. Although I am not from there, this song is my all time favorite.
