I saw him play twice at Ronny Scotts in 1968 or 1969. One night he played a two-hour solo. Ten years later I was playing one of his records at the bottom of my garden and someone called the police.

This was combination of avant-garde, church, pop, jazz and some other wild mix that just blew me away with absoulte joy. This man wasn't just a genius, he was MAD GENIUS!!! And to think how so-called jazz artists like Wynton Marsailes would frown upon this type of music and artists.Thats because he doesn't have the guts to do what real artists like Rahsaahn brought to jazz. To challange and have some serious fun with the music.

We had Roland Kirk and his wife at our home for dinner when he had a gig in Redondo Beach, CA. Soon after his tour, I spoke to his wife via phone and he had passed on. A talented jazz musician.

Saw him in Coventry around 1971. He played My Cherie Amour for the whole of the first set, at least an hour. One of the greatest performances I've ever witnessed, and I saw them all.

remove all the extraneous crap and just put a big tenor to his mouth and you would hear a true giant of jazz. He could play Sweet and Hot jazz and give a great performance without all the gimmicks. A pity he played too much to the 'juvenile' element .

Rahsaan was at that rare level of mastery where he could play what he felt and you could understand what he was saying thru his music. He first performed this after MLK was murdered- the version I have still brings tears to my eyes.
