On Wednesday, June 21st, the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) held a second forum on confronting Iran in the U.S. Capitol building.
David Robinson is the Executive Director of Pax Christi USA, a non-profit, non-governmental Catholic peace movement working on a global scale on a wide variety of issues in the fields of human rights, security and disarmament, economic justice and ecology. He was part of an interfaith delegation that returned from Iran in May, where they met with one of the Iranian Vice-Presidents and laid foundation for future religious and/or congressional delegations.

Cathpresbyter...you are exactly right in your posts...People don't know that this PaxChristi is a group of dissident liberals who think they can camouflage under the title of "catholics". How dare they sully our Church with their idiotic, perverse, liberal agendas. .
Catholic faith, morals, and action cannot rest ONLY with dogmas and sexual ethics such as opposition to abortion and contraception (which by the way, I do *NOT* dissent from Humanae Vitae)... I don't reject any of the dogmas or the teachings on sexual ethics or about abortion- but I also realize now just how VITAL the social teachings are, such as PREFERENTIAL OPTION FOR THE POOR.
I say all these things with love for you, and hope and pray that you too will come to this realization.
No one ever said it rests on dogmas, but the churches' teaching authority comes from the primitive krygma which deals with issues of faith and morals. So the social issues too must come from them, and if a present understanding of social teaching contradicts the deposit, it must go. And Pax Christi mixes up intrinsic evils in their documents. I don't mind opposing the war in Iraq, but it can never be compared to abortion or euthenasia. Due to intentionality..
I think it is COMPLETELY Catholic to do all one can to try to avoid war- or even to embrace complete pacifism if one feels so compelled... to see the dignity in each person- including one's enemies...
What about the millions of humans who have died as the result of war? Perhaps one million dead Iraqis- and thousands of US soldiers dead- all as the result of a war/occupation which much/all evidence appears to show as being unjustified and fought for economic purposes?
I have never favored helping the ultra wealthy. I also favor jail terms for politicians who get wealthy off graft with contrabutions from the sub-prime deregulation. (Obama, Dodd, Pilosi, Kenjorski, to name a few.) These neo-democrats got rich while bankrupting the poor making them house poor, and then loosing them. And they they bail the ultra-rich out. Would Roosevelt have done that? I think not! These neo-democrats are not true liberals, they do not care for the poor.
Are right-wing American (and other) conservatives really pro-life when they often favor war and militarism; oppose unions (and the just wages and respect for the dignity of workers which they bring); oppose health care for all; favor imprisonment, retribution, and the death penalty; favor special treatment for the ultra-wealthy and oppose a more just distribution of wealth???? We must begin to realize how crucial these issues are- we must care about people AFTER they are born too!
In the first place I am not a right wing. I a true liberal, I believe in human dignity and protecting it, from conception to natural death. I oppose the genocide that the liberals are doing to my people the hispanics and the African Americans. I don't oppose unions, provided they are not going too far. (Like the Air Traffic controllers did.) I have never opposed health care.
I used to be a conservative member of the SSPX and had an outlook somewhat similar to yours, CathPresbyter. But thankfully, I have had a conversion and enlightenment about peace and social justice issues. We must stand up for peace.
Well I am not a SSPX member nor have I ever attended a SSPX Service. I used to be a liberal like you are today. IE son of a Presidential Appointee under Carter, and I don't oppose justice issues, just people twisting moral theology like Pax Christi. I too had a conversion to Christianity, as opposed to apostacy to the pseudo doctrines of liberalism.
