Thought I'd do some run by's of my trains. Once the back ground is painted, I think it will look much better. But at least you'll be able to see what I have in my collection.

  • Nop, it's an SD70M.

  • Killer job for your first layout. What are the dimensions of your layout? Gotta luv the BNSF's.

  • Thanks man, glad you like it! Right now it's 13' x 8' in a U shape. I will be expanding in the future. For the immediate future I only plan on expanding it out to a yard area. Makes it easy to store the trains and run multiple trains since I only have one main line right now. Yep, BNSF is my fav!

  • Hi all, I'm starting at this and I have a big question. Are all these locomotives working at the same time or only the leading engine is the one that works? I just bought my first three locos and I not sure if they all will be "running" at the same time (pulling the same train). Also, what about speed control? Can this feature be provided by the DCC or is all about the engine features/capability?

  • Hi pichul15, all the locos' are powered and pulling at the same time, otherwise the train wouldn't move at all. So when you put them on your track, for DC they will all run together, and all of them will have the lights on. With DCC, you would build what's called a Consist, more than one unit, and the decoders that you use with your DCC system will control the speed to be the same for each loco. Most if not all decoders have that feature. Hope this helps!

  • here are some ideas for your layout

maby some Amtrack and a train station.

or a ship port for the double stacks.

a freight yard or a grain tower. maby if you had some different trains (CN, Conrail, CP)

i just thought i would suggest these to you.

  • Very good idea with the ship port, I hadn't considered that. I will be expanding it at some point and that might just be something to add. I have a grain tower (the ADM one) it's kind of out in the sticks of the layout but I felt it was the best spot for it considering the room I have. I was thinking about a train station and I have a great spot for it. I like CP alot and they run near my home so I may pick one of those up. Thanks for the input! :-)

  • I like that second UP loco, is it an sd60?

  • people that hate seening the same exat grey coal car for 2 minutes. i like variety in mixed fireghts id only like coal if BNSF SD75Ms or SD60MS were leading. or SD40-2s

  • another good industry is coal, you can't forget coal. it'll open the door for a lot more traffic. steel, power, ship ports, and so on. besides who dosen't enjoy a nice long coal haul??

  • Congratulations for his your model. I have much that to learn still.CARAVIA52 FROM SPAIN

  • ya i have CP rail run near my house as well

its funny i am going to attempt to fit most of those ideas that i told you in to my layout and im am going to expand my layout as well just so my layout wont look so crammed up and stuff like that
