  • I was wondering. Is the yeast in the ginger beer still alive when you drink it. I heard that consuming live yeast isn't necessarily the healthiest thing because it leaches nutrients from your GI tract. Is there any way to still keep the fizz and not drink live yeast?

  • @confettistar ... Now I'm no scientist but I think I can assure you that the yeast in beers, breads, and alcohol is dead after it's been cooled or heated. As yeast feeds on sugar, it creates two digestive by products - alcohol and carbon dioxide. The CO2 causes the fizziness in the gingerbeer. As soon as you put the ginger beer in the fridge, the yeast dies and you are left with the by product.

  • Thank you so much for this video. I left home my country when I was very young but never forgot my grandmother's ginger beer. When I got married and wanted to get her recipe, she was no more alive. Your video brought back memories of the way she used to do it. Thanks to your video and for sharing with us, I will try and make my own ginger beer from now on. I wish you and your family well.

  • @DAleksis That is not true in the case of ginger beer and beer. The yeast is very much alive - and it is NOT bad for you (at least these yeasts are not bad for you.) Yeast does NOT die in the fridge. Of course if you boil it then yeast will indeed die.

  • First, great vid - I used your insturctions. couple of things: the yeast do not die in the firdge, they only go dormant. Yeast are very good for you (response to Q's above and the bad info from @hatstalker and @everythingaquarium) they containe lots of B2 and B12 vitamines. also, is it really possiable to use too much ginger (yes, i am a ginger lover) - Also if you strain the all the juice before filing bottles, extra oxygen will give yeast a boost and easier to fill bottles.

  • @confettistar if you stick it in the fridge over night it will kill all the yeast

  • @confettistar The alcohol kills the yeast. and TBH In this society we live in we are over nourished so losing a bit of nutrients is no biggy.

  • @DAleksis This is not true at all. The yeast doesn't die when it's cooled. It goes 'dormant'. As soon as it reaches room temp again, it becomes active if there are sugars around. It is also completely harmless.

  • Thank you for this video!

  • My wife made this Dainamite Ginger Beer recipe and it was really great. I have tried making ginger beer in the past and it was flat tasting with no character. This recipe gives a great tasting ginger beer that has some bite but also smooth. Be warned, it can be addicting. No, I take that back, it is addicting. And the videos make it easy. Well done all the way around. Way to go, DAleksis.
