The King of the Bongo was a young, wide-eyed, talented individual looking to leave his mark on society. He traveled to the city with great expectations but only encountered discouraging words and disappointment. With nothing but a handkerchief over his fragile heart he told his tale to the masses. Day after day. Year after year.
The King of the Bongo--to me--represents every tenacious artist in this world who continuously bares his or her soul to the masses. I have seen too many artists become exhausted by this process, and eventually give up hope and shut down. There is something wrong with a world in which personal expression is so difficult and unappreciated. I believe we are in need of a culture change. And I believe the best way to create such change is through our own actions. Let us bare our heart to the masses. And open our ears to the beating hearts around us.
