There are just as many rational arguments for believing in the Spaghetti monster, Santa Clause or Fairies as there are for believing in the Christian God. The difference lies not in the rational arguments but in the emotional arguments. People believe in your God not because it is logical but because it makes them feel better, because their feelings tell them he must be real or because they trust some religious authority. There are no such emotional arguments for the FSM and here they differ

Beliefs can change but it's far more rare for an Atheist to turn religious than it is for a religious person to be become Atheist. The reason being...one position is based on reason and the other is not.

Sincerity -- whatever the parents say, the children do have a sincere belief. As you've shown, the reason we know Santa isn't real (to the extent that we can know) is that we see an alternate, perfectly reasonable explanation (your parents) that makes much more sense.
Longevity of a belief is also not evidence. How long did we believe diseases were caused by demons, before modern medicine wiped that out almost overnight?
Not all religions are concerned with a god at all, let alone your god.

His/Her Noodliness is ordering coal for your stocking right now. Mwuahaha. You have made my fsm playlist.
Santa told Zeus and Zeus telephoned Upstairs.

"not for any of the reasons you have heard before"
That would be truly surprising. I look forward to it.

Jahweh/Theos from the old/new testament is a character in stories just like Ra, Santa Claus, Gandalf. It just so happens that people believe some of these stories about Jahweh and have identified him with a universal creative force. Those people are no more or less sincere than Zeus' or Ra's followers once were.
There's no good reason to believe that the Jahweh character is any more real than Ra, Santa or the FSM.
In spite of its popularity, a universal creative force has no evidence either.

Certainly not. Again, I'm not asking so I can "get" you in a boogie-man sort of way, but rather, to understand.
I appreciate your take on this. Obviously I've already shared my distinctions. I will make a video challenging "no good reason to believe" because I disagree strongly with that. And I bet it's not for any of the reasons you have heard before or will be anticipating. Let me know if I'm wrong when you see the vid. Thanks again for trading thoughts. Respect

What an excellent response! Thank you! Yes, do call me Az. Most people do. As regards your answer: yes, I can definitely see the difference. Personally, I'd say that's all the difference needed. But for someone like Sablechicken, passion is just a byproduct of the real difference. This may be beyond your perception (as it is mine), but any ideas on what that might be?
