USB 2 has been the standard for over 5 years, but, is soon to be replaced by 2 new options: USB3 and Thunderbolt. Here's a quick breakdown of how the three compare.

• USB 2 has a maximum transfer speed of 480 megabits per second

• USB 3 has a maximum transfer speed of 5,000 megabits per second

• USB 3 provides an electrical charge of 900mA which roughly equates to charging a cellphone in 35 minutes.

The net of it? Thunderbolt, also bi-directional like USB 3, is by far the fastest. Leave us a comment to share your thoughts!
