  • GOD SAVE THE KINKS!

  • This makes me want to get a British passport. I'm American, but I've loved British bands my whole life without even thinking about why that was so. Documentaries like this help me understand it better.

  • @mdaltonwhite : Arthur is also a great album, dunno why I didn't put that on my comment all those months ago haha, Lola is a good album, but it came out 1970, I said the band were pretty crap from 1971 onwards, despite having moments of genius here and there, one of the best songs they produced in post-71 was actually a Dave Davies number called Living on a Thin Line

  • @PredatorFilmsInc : Nonsense. For starters, Lola Versus Powerman & the Money-Go-Round is utterly brilliant (Lola, Apeman, Top of the Pops, Strangers, Rats, Powerman).. honestly? Do u have ears & any sensibility? Muswell Hillbillies is also, perhaps the absolute PEAK of Ray's songwriting. And while there are inconsistencies, albums like Misfits & Showbiz also have amazong moments and are must owns. Low Budget is a good record. There are bits of genius on even the Preservations & Schoolboys.

  • @jennyconn1 I'm Bolivian and the same happened to me

  • @alabhaois : ... Although you could argue that "Quadrophenia" tops all of those albums.

  • @alabhaois : Pete and Ray are great. Not better than The Beatles. The Beatles created, changed and innovated so much in the space of 7 years. The Kinks have made music from 64-90s and their work from 1971-onwards is mostly awful. The only good Kinks album I can think off is VGPS, which itself has it's lows, maybe Face to Face as well. The Beatles have Abbey Road, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper and the White Album which all trump VGPS.

  • @colindominy I think that Pete and Ray outdo the Beatles in terms of their musical compositions. Not to disparage the Beatles, but the sheer guts, grittiness, and thundering output from the Kinks and the Who is, IMO, unsurpassed by anyone. I think Ray has written over 500 songs!!!

  • @13thfloor18 Yes, he doesn't give rave reviews to many musicians-- one compliment from Pete is worth a convention of music critics giving a standing ovation!

  • @jennyconn1 I have always loved the Brits as well-- what IS it about their music that catches the ear and wont let go? The Kinks are phenomenal and deserve all the accolades... GSTK!!

  • I love how Townshend sees rock and roll, really sees it for the art that it is.

  • The Kinks were a legendary band .. right up there, & not far at all behind The Beatles in terms of exposure & popularity. As a music talent & a singer / song-writer .. I personally rank Ray Davies at least as good as Lennon / McCartney. At least. He really had the gift. These commentators are correct about "Waterloo Sunset".. I can't figure out why it took so damn long to put em in the Hall of Fame .. way too late in coming ..
