Heres one to really fuck with your head - The way american people speak now is more like how indigenous english people spoke back in the day... Having said this I haven't checked my sources on this yet but remember them being vaguely reliable

But it's modern form, as shown in this video, was invented by the Americans. They turned an existing, relatively minor, holiday into a massive consumer event spanning several weeks. Saying that it isn't American is almost like saying Christmas isn't christian; there were celebrations on the 25th of December for hundreds of years before it became a christian holiday, they just adapted it to suit their agenda.
